On July 17, 2014, Eric Garner, an African-American male, was placed in a chokehold; struggling, he declared 11 times "I can't breathe." The officers ignored his cries until Eric Garner lay lifeless in the officer's choking arms. This officer was not indicted on any charges. This sparked an outcry in black communities everywhere.
Dr. E. Dewey Smith, Jr. addresses this issue from both a social justice and theological perspective. This powerful sermon allows us to see that like Eric Garner, there are circumstances and even people in our lives that can "choke" the breath/life out of us. Listen and discover how the Word of God is the pneuma - the very breath we need to bring life back into our situations. No matter what injustice, unfairness, difficulty, or choking situation you've faced, this moving and life changing message will allow you to declare "I CAN BREATHE AGAIN."
St. Matthew 2:19-21
